Wondering how you can submit a stand-out, successful application to Foster’s MSCM program? Read on for our top application tips:

1. Choose references who know you well

When choosing whom to ask for a letter of recommendation, ask current or previous managers, peers who have collaborated with you on projects, or college professors. Select individuals who can speak about your strengths as well as areas for development. Personal recommendations, such as friends or relatives, are not recommended. Lastly, keep in mind that it is your duty as an applicant to make sure your recommendations get in on time, so check in with your recommenders when possible.

2. Ace the interview

You will be required to submit a pre-recorded interview as a part of the application process. The admissions committee would like to learn more about your professional and education background as well as your communication and written skills. Take advantage of the practice questions in the interview to get a feel for the online platform. Be sure to have reliable technology and internet connection as well as a professional appearance on camera!

3. Tell us about you in the essays

Be thoughtful. Be honest. Be genuine. Be You. We want to learn why you are interested in the MSCM program and what you have to contribute to the class. Take advantage of the essay and interview to highlight your accomplishments, professional goals, and written and verbal communication skills. Be sure to proofread the essays for typos.

4. Put your best foot forward

Use the resume to detail your professional experience in the supply chain field. Internships and volunteer service count as relevant experience! Do include accomplishments that highlight interpersonal, communication, technical, and quantitative skills. Do not include information, such as age, gender, marital status or other personal data.

5. Testing 1, 2, 3

There are no minimum score requirements. Are you stressed out about taking a test or unsure about how to prepare? One strategy to approach the exam is to take a sample test to establish a baseline of how you score and determine areas of improvement. Depending on individual preference, you may choose to study on your own or take a prep class. Additionally, if you will be applying to other graduate programs in business, the GMAT might be a better option as many business programs require the GMAT for admissions consideration. No matter which test you take, we recommend that you take the exam no later than two weeks prior to the application deadline to ensure we receive the official scores in time.

6Start Today

Last but not least, you don’t want to feel rushed when you’re working on your application materials. The best way to avoid that is to start as early as possible. You want to make sure you are submitting the final version of your application, not a first draft.

Next steps:

If you’re ready to apply, you must first create an online applicant profile via the Graduate School. The application can be saved so you can work on different pieces over time. The profile serves as an online portal for you to make changes and check for updates. The application is now live on the graduate school website. The application rounds for the 2024-2025 cohort are Nov. 14, 2023, Dec. 5, 2023, Jan. 9, 2024. Admission decisions are sent within 6 weeks after each round deadline.

In addition to the tips outlined above, MSCM regularly hosts a live events series that will give you insight into the classroom, student experience and life after the program.
