Sharpening skill sets through Consulting

Coming into the University of Washington, it was overwhelming to see all the opportunities the school had to offer. But, with having the opportunity to be apart of this year’s Business Bridge cohort, I was able to learn about the Foster Consulting Program here at UW. After learning how the Foster Consulting Program strived to positively impact local Seattle businesses and provided hands-on client work for freshmen, I knew I needed to get involved.

At the beginning of this program, it was intimidating coming onto a consulting project as a freshman with minimal business knowledge. Yet, merely just after the first meeting, it was obvious to see how welcoming this program was to everyone as long as they were willing to learn. With having three involved professional advisors, a dedicated project manager, and four other friendly student consultants, I was never short of the resources needed to help the client.

Being apart of the Foster Consulting Program this winter has been an amazing learning experience. With working on such an extensive project, I have been able to improve on soft skills such as cooperation, creative thinking, listening, etc., and even some hard skills like analyzing a company’s business and marketing strategy. Overall, after six weeks of hard work, I can positively say this program has been nothing short of phenomenal, allowing students to take early but meaningful strides in their careers.
