Foster Students “Fostering Community” and Making Impacts

Foster students volunteer at U-district food bankThe Foster School of Business finds pride in knowing that all of its students spend time not only finding ways to grow and develop themselves, but to also put in dedication in helping our community grow as well. Our annual Week of Service works to encourage Foster students and student organizations to find a charitable cause they hope to use their passions and talents to give back to and help. This year, we are proud to say that we truly saw all just how much Foster students are willing to give back to different organizations and causes throughout the community. Whether it was raising money and awareness or helping physically, Foster students proved just how much they cared about making an impact.

We would like to sincerely thank our generous sponsor, UPS, and all the students and organizations that participated in making a difference this year. We hope to continue our annual tradition and are excited to continue seeing how Foster’s future leaders will continue to make impacts on our community through their dedication and hard work.

Here are highlights from this year’s exciting Week of Service.

Undergraduate Business Council and Business Impact Group worked together in planning the Week of Service and were even able to invite Andy Wappler, the Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Puget Sound Energy, to share and inspire Foster with his thoughts of giving back to the community.

Ad Club, Business Ethics Association, and Undergraduate Women in Business teamed up their members to help grocery shop, cook, serve and clean for Teen Feed, a local organization that works endlessly to help and support homeless at at-risk youth in our community.

Alpha Kappa Psi and ReThink partnered with EarthCorp in order to better something our community loves, nature. The two organizations worked hard and helped to restore Magnuson Park.

Out for Business, Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), and Operations & Supply Chain Management Club (OSCM) joined forces to aid Lifelong Aids Alliance and the Chicken Soup Brigade by helping prepare and deliver meals to fight hunger and chronic illnesses. They donated 24 hours of service and their efforts allowed them to prepare 800 meals, deliver 500 meals, and strengthen the bonds between future Foster leaders.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Asian Business Student Association (ABSA) met up and dedicated a day to cleaning up Golden Gardens Beach Park.

American Marketing Association and Husky Sale Club not only raised money for the American Cancer Society through a pizza feed, but also spent a day helping to clean up our very own University Way.

Business Leaders in Healthcare teamed up with Foster Finance Association and Husky Traders to spend time collecting a great deal of food to donate to the U-District Food Bank.

Montlake Consulting Group, Beta Gamma Sigma, and GC3 all had members volunteer their time in helping make sure the Global Health Business Case Competition was a success for all those who participated.

Delta Sigma Pi, AIESEC, and CISB collaborated with GiveSafe in helping our community find a solution on how to give back to those in need without needing to carry a dollar in hand. They worked to distribute GiveSafe wristbands to nonprofit shelters so that anyone with the GiveSafe app can be notified of individuals with a wristband who could use help.

Beta Alpha Psi and ASCEND spent time sorting and packing food with Food Lifeline in order to ensure that more people in our community could get what they needed.

National Association of Black Accountants and Association of Black Business Students spent Martin Luther King Day at the Mount Baker Community Clubhouse painting, building, cleaning, and doing much more to help the clubhouse become more of a resource for the community.

Start Up UW got together with Dream Project and hosted a student entrepreneur panel to provide insight and opportunities for students who are interested.
