Adrienne Chan

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in the multicultural city of Toronto, Canada. I’ve lived there most of my life until moving to the Greater Seattle Area 4 years ago, which I now call home.

What did you do before entering this program?

I was a Program Manager at Microsoft for 4 years focusing on user experiences and data-driven development before entering the program. Prior to that, I graduated from the University of Waterloo in Systems Design Engineering with a minor in Mathematics and an option in Entrepreneurship. I also taught the recreational ballet program at the university and back-up danced for shows and concerts in Toronto.

When did you know you wanted to be an entrepreneur? Did you have any entrepreneurship experience before entering this program?

I’ve always been ambitious and enjoyed tackling hard problems. However, I didn’t know much about entrepreneurship growing up. It was not until I interned at a company in an incubator that I got exposed to entrepreneurship. I fell in love with the passion, drive, and ambition of all the entrepreneurs I met. The more I learned about it, the more I wanted to become one.

Tell us why you are excited to be a part of the current cohort for the MS ENTRE degree program?

I wanted to pursue higher education and entrepreneurship. This program perfectly combines the two. I am excited to build new skills sets essential in starting and running a business. To me, joining the MS ENTRE program is like laying a foundation from which I can more comfortably experiment and start my own business.

What advantages do you see to opening a business now?

There is never a best timing. If you want to do something, do it now so you don’t regret.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

We’ll see where life takes me! I want to be a successful CEO making impact in multiple areas I care about. Hopefully I will be stronger, calmer, passionate, motivated, and constantly improving.

What do you like to do for fun?

I dance! It is a part of my identity and keeps me going. I also love watching dramas, eating good food, and spending time with family.

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about applying to the MS ENTRE degree program?

If you’re thinking about it, then just go for it!
