Global Leadership Program’s First Cohort Selected

The Global Business Center is one big step closer to actualizing the Hovind Global Leaders Program! After months of outreach and a rigorous application process, we welcome 14 outstanding undergraduate students from the Foster School of Business to the inaugural cohort.

Developed to increase access to global opportunities, the yearlong leadership program is anchored in a weekly academic seminar led by Associate Dean of Inclusion & Diversity, Christina Fong, that kicks off this fall. Students will also be paired with mentors, expanding their networks to the business community locally, and participate in a fully funded spring break global experience, expanding their networks around the world.*

The 14 students represent diversity of thought, life experience, and formal option within Foster but are united by a shared resolve to be inclusive global business leaders. They were selected for their growth mindset, leadership capacity, commitment to equity and social justice, commitment to community, and resilience.

Another trademark of the group is tenacity. On top of full course loads, they’ve held positions including: Vice President of Recruitment for UW’s Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) RSO, President of UW’s First Generation Business Leaders RSO, Young Executives of Color mentor, UW Campus Tour Guide, Black@Foster member, and Global Case Competition participant. HGL Program Manager, Roya Zahed, is especially excited about the program’s attention to cultivating community in the group -“beyond the different elements of the program, it’s the discussions and learning that happens within the cohort that will be so rich and help us really engage with the issues and challenges of our time.”

Being in the inaugural cohort means the students will impact the evolution of the program and play a strong continued role as alumni. And charged with demonstrating leadership locally, their impact will reach the greater Foster and Seattle community.

The Global Business Center celebrates this opportunity to bring study abroad and global learning to the next generation of business leaders. We believe programs like this prepare Foster students to lead positive change and meet the evolving needs of the business world with confidence, competence, and empathy.

We look forward to a transformative year with our fourteen Hovind Global Leaders!

This program was made possible by the generous gift of donors who seek to increase access to leadership and global opportunities for Foster School students.

*While study abroad is on pause due to the global pandemic, we eagerly await clear paths to travel in 2021. The Global Business Center is committed to providing global experiences but continues to prioritize student safety. We are prepared to adapt accordingly.
