Christiane Helbig – MSIS Mentor Brings a Mindful Approach to Career Growth
The Mentorship Program is a core component of the Master of Science in Information Systems curriculum. The program connects MSIS students with Seattle-based IT leaders through a unique one-to-one professional relationship that can bridge the gap between academic concepts and real world practices.
Christiane Helbig, Senior Principal at Accenture, has been an MSIS mentor for close to five years. She says, “Being a mentor gives me a reason to take time out of my schedule, step back from work, and see what the next generation of business leaders are thinking and learning.” She has been working at Accenture for fourteen years and has a deep understanding of the consulting culture as well as the needs of companies that hire consultants.
MSIS’ curriculum focuses on four key concepts – data mining and analytics, information security, cloud computing, and executive leadership – to develop business leaders with a breadth of skills. In her role as mentor, Christiane sees first hand that MSIS’ blend of tech and business is special.
MSIS students are exposed to more than a standard business degree. They graduate with an understanding of key issues such as security and privacy, as well as high-demand skills related to data and analytics.
She’s begun teaching mindfulness workshops at Accenture and stresses that it’s important to “make people a priority.”
Christiane is involved with a women’s networking group at Accenture and attributes her success to mentors and people she works with. Her spirit, care for others, and ability to solve complex business-technology issues makes her the type of mentor students love.
“As a mentor, I’m able to give students a sense of what the world looks like. For me, working with the students allows me to look at my own journey.”
