Free MBA research tool brings school data from several top rankings into one mobile-friendly site

MBA candidates can now leverage rankings data from U.S. News & World Report, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Financial Times, Forbes and M7 Financial to find the top 30 Full-time MBA programs in the U.S. that best match their priorities.

The MBA Rankings CalculatorTM empowers applicants to create a custom list of best fit schools by choosing the results that matter most to them, including salary and placement, student selectivity, employer reputation, faculty research, and return on investment. Applicants can weight each metric individually by distributing 100 points across up to 10 metrics. Based on the results, candidates can fine-tune their formula to develop an optimal list of schools.

Foster Full-time MBA student Ryan Walsh helped shape the calculator by sharing his experience as an MBA applicant. “This tool would have been invaluable as a prospective MBA student,” he said. “With so many different lists and rankings, it was difficult to find the ‘right’ one. The MBA Rankings Calculator allows applicants to set the parameters and create a ranking system based on what is important to them. It would have helped me quickly see which schools were right for me.”

Inspired by Poets & Quants re-ranking of schools based on student results, the rankings calculator allows each applicant to choose which results are most valuable. This personalized approach mirrors the Foster School’s admissions philosophy—to help MBA applicants identify programs that best fit their goals and aspirations.

“Obviously, we urge MBA candidates to always consider the culture, the community, the location, the student services, program performance and other areas that matter to them when choosing an MBA program,” said Dan Poston, assistant dean of master’s programs at the Foster School. “But we know for nearly all candidates the rankings are a consideration. Not only does this tool help them filter data from multiple rankings to see the results that that are most important to them…it’s just fun to explore how school rankings change based on different priorities.”

The calculator was developed by the Foster School to help MBA applicants make informed decisions and access diverse rankings metrics in one convenient place. “The calculator can jumpstart your MBA research process,” explained Andrea Bowers, who manages school rankings data and conceived the calculator. “It complements the wealth of school information on the MBA rankings sites by allowing you to rate options based on your own goals.”
