Welcome to Nantes

By Hailey Pettit, Foster Undergraduate who participated in an exchange with Audencia University in Nantes, France

Studying abroad in Nantes, France has been amazing so far! I live in La
Brunelliere student residence which is only a 5-minute tram ride to the city center. At the residence, there are a lot of exchange students. We created a FB page for France Hailey Pettit 1all of us to plan events and meet up to go to parties. Some of them have become really good friends that I will continue to keep in touch with.

Audencia is the school that I am attending in Nantes. It is about a 20-30 minute tram ride from the residence. That may seem long, but the school is far from the city center so I am happy that I live in the residence I do. My friends who live closer to the school all wish they had a place closer to the center.

The school has been very welcoming. There’s a club France Hailey Pettit 2called the IC Team that welcomes all the international students. They have done a very good job at integrating us into the student life at Audencia. My favorite part about Nantes is that it is a student city so there is always something to do and many people my age to meet. Many of the students here speak English and are very friendly.

There are also a lot of things to see in Nantes. There is a Japanese garden called l’Ile de Versailles that is beautiful. Another one of my favorites places to go is a rooftop bar called le Nid (French for “the nest”) that is on the top of the highest building in Nantes. Going there to see the sunset was breathtaking!
