Why We Should Study Abroad

Guest Post By: Edrees Sidiqi, a Fifth Year studying Accounting. He is a Global Business Center Study Abroad Scholarship Recipient, and he studied abroad through a Foster Exchange and Direct Enroll at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, during Autumn Semester 2022.

Hello! I am Edrees and I am an exchange student at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. I am writing here to tell you about my experience studying in Milan and encourage you to take advantage of study abroad opportunities at UW.

First time I decided to study abroad was 2020. Unfortunately, the program was canceled due to Covid. Yet, I did not give up and applied the next year which was my senior year. However, the program got canceled again due to the Delta Variant. I still did not give up and decided to reapply again in my fifth year (I am accounting major), and finally I made it to Milan, Italy!

The decision to study abroad was one of the best decisions of my life. I am beyond thankful for this opportunity, and I truly encourage if you are reading this to study abroad. I can write pages and pages about my experience, and yet, I don’t believe that would truly reflect my experience being here.

I have met many students from all around the world, and due to Milan’s strategic location, I’ve been also able to travel around Europe. Bocconi University is very nice with lots of programs and activities which are never ending. You can also connect to Erasmus Student Network if you study here which organizes activities, connects you to other students, and helps you with any questions you may have. Overall, this has been a great experience and I will never regret my decision of being here. The pictures I am submitting are from Zurich Switzerland, my first visit to San Siro soccer stadium, and the Roman Forum in Italy. Feel free to connect if you have any questions!
