Foster’s Master of Science in Taxation program celebrates 25th Anniversary
The MS Tax program (then known as MPAcc Tax) graduated its first class 25 years ago in June of 1993. Over 100 MS Tax alumni celebrated the milestone last week at a campus reception. The event also honored beloved longtime MS Tax Associate Director Francine Shafer, who joined the tax program at its inception and will retire this December.
In the first year that Bill Resler and Steve Rice offered the program, just 14 students were enrolled. Resler, who passed away in 2017, is remembered in the Resler Endowed Fund, which supports student scholarships. Ticket sales for the event supported the Resler Fund. During the event, Rice regaled attendees with stories of starting the program with Resler and Shafer, and Shafer was presented with engraved knitting needles from the alumni. True to their roots, alumni gathered afterwards at The Duchess, a local bar frequented by MS Tax students.
The MS Tax program will graduate its 1,000th student this year and plans to host more alumni events going forward. Join the MS Tax LinkedIn group to learn about future events!
