Hybrid MBA Goes Test Optional
The Hybrid MBA program will be test optional for the admissions cycle for fall 2022 in an ongoing effort to encourage diversity, equity and access to education. As a program that already evaluates applicants holistically, this is a natural move to make in a rapidly changing world.
“By making the test optional, I hope that we will also see more diverse candidates rise to the top of the admissions pool. For some wanting to make their applications more competitive, they still have the option to submit a test score. However, this will no longer be a barrier for a prospective students’ educational goals and future.”
– Jodey Farwell, Hybrid MBA Director
Hear from Director, Jodey Farwell:
“For the Hybrid MBA program, we consider applications based on a holistic evaluation of years of work experience, career growth, community involvement, empathy, and of course, academic or work exposure to business acumen and quantitative reasoning. We find the most value in the student’s personal reflective essays and 1:1 interviews; we want to get to know the whole you. By making the test optional, I hope that we will also see more diverse candidates rise to the top of the admissions pool. For some wanting to make their applications more competitive, they still have the option to submit a test score. However, this will no longer be a barrier for a prospective students’ educational goals and future.
There has been a growing movement toward making standardized tests optional, and the pandemic has provided a catalyst to help many institutions expand their evaluation criteria. We are excited to see this movement gaining acceptance, and for us to join the trend. While standardized exams can be a useful tool of comparison, we have long believed that these scores cannot be the only admissions criteria, and that a holistic view of every prospective student is critical. Ranking bodies have also begun to embrace a broader approach when comparing the strengths of different programs, and no longer prioritize test scores as highly as they used to.”
