Today, only 28% of technology roles are held by women and less than 15% are occupied by women of color (Anita B.Org). There is a clear demand for women technologists, and now more than ever is the time to develop and promote diverse talent.
On Saturday, November 19th, the Master of Science in Information Systems program hosted the Women in Tech Brunch: Purpose, Power, Progress at The Collective Seattle! Three influential leaders and authors came together to discuss how to lean into your purpose, re-imagine your power in corporate America, and make progress towards advancing women of color in tech.

Trice Johnson
Trice Johnson is a Global Tech Innovation Executive, Published Book Author, and Digital Leadership Coach focused on emerging & disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) and next-generation cloud platforms. Her research and work over the past two decades has focused on helping Fortune Global 500 business leaders to adopt bold strategies to prepare for their digital future.
Currently, Trice serves as Vice President of Innovation Strategy at Salesforce, where she designs short and long-term strategies for growth through market research, economic & future scenario planning analysis, and future trend analysis that inform strategic and investment decisions-making. Before joining Salesforce in 2021, Trice was a Global Strategy Leader at Microsoft for more than 9 years accelerating digital transformation for customers across numerous industry sectors.
Trice’s personal passions include supporting dozens of start-ups and early stage companies as a way of giving back and creating inclusive pathways for small businesses and entrepreneurs to grow and thrive. Additionally, Trice works closely with many nonprofit organizations mentoring & empowering women and youth underrepresented in STEM fields, including the T.D. Jakes Foundation iWIN nonprofit as an Advisory Board Member.
Deepa Purushothaman
Deepa is a former senior executive and a corporate inclusion visionary. She challenges and redefines the status quo of leadership, success, and power by centering the needs and experiences of Women of Color.
As a senior partner at Deloitte, Deepa spent more than 20 years helping clients in the Technology and Telecommunications industries transform and grow. She also focused on women’s leadership and inclusion strategies as the Managing Partner of WIN, Deloitte’s pioneering, globally renowned Women’s Initiative, and was the first Indian-American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in the firm’s history.
After leaving Deloitte in 2020, Deepa co-founded nFormation, a membership-based community for professional Women of Color, offering brave, safe, new space and placing them in C-suite positions and on Boards. She is also a Women and Public Policy Program Leader in Practice at the Harvard Kennedy School, and a founding board member of Avasara, India’s first leadership academy exclusively for young women.
Deepa’s book, The First, The Few, The Only: How Women of Color Can Redefine Power in Corporate America, was published by HarperCollins in March 2022 to international acclaim.
Deepa is a TED and SXSW speaker and has been featured across multiple publications such as TIME, PBS, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Financial Times, and Harvard Business Review. Her TED talks have over 1M views.
She has degrees from Wellesley College, Harvard Kennedy School, and the London School of Economics, and lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three dogs.
