Teagan George looks for career growth at MSBA
Teagan George joined the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) while working as a senior business analyst at Acuity Eye Group. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and worked as an economic consultant after college.
One night, sitting at her desk crunching numbers after dark, Teagan George realized she wanted to grow her career as an analyst.
“During the pandemic, I was reevaluating where I wanted my professional life to go and realized that I really needed grad school,” Teagan said.
As a working professional, Teagan knew that she needed a flexible graduate program. The MSBA, with its evening classes and business-ready curriculum, swiftly caught her attention.
“I really needed a program that teaches coding languages in a business-friendly approach so I could start applying it right away,” she said.
One class that stood out to Teagan was Operations Research Data Analytics taught by Professor Michael Wagner. For her final project, she applied software skills to predict the price of used cars, an experience she found both practical and rewarding.
“We were learning each step of the coding language in a way that made sense for the real world,” she said.
Teagan currently works remotely as a senior business analyst at Acuity Eye Group, a California-based healthcare company. Since she is taking courses alongside her day job, she can apply the material she learned directly to her work.
Her most valuable upskill was improving spreadsheet management. After taking a class in spreadsheet modeling, Teagan learned new ways to organize spreadsheets. “Even though I work with Excel 95% of the time, I didn’t fully know the good practices of responsible data management.”
As Teagan moves forward in her career, she hopes to move into more advanced analyst roles.
