Celebrating Graduation Season: Honoring the UW Foster TMMBA Class of 2023
Graduation season is a time of celebration, reflection, and anticipation as students culminate their educational journeys and embark on new chapters in their lives. We are delighted to shine a spotlight on the exceptional accomplishments of the University of Washington’s Foster Technology Management MBA (TMMBA) Class of 2023. From captivating pitch competitions that showcased their innovation and tenacity to the graduation banquet honoring the class’s achievements, let’s embark on a journey through the memorable highlights of their graduation season.
Pitch Competition
On Wednesday, May 31st, TMMBA students presented business plans and investor pitches to panels of expert industry judges. Representing the culmination of a two-quarter product development and pitch class, the competition featured two components: tradeshow and boardroom pitch competitions. The tradeshow took place from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, where teams pitched their ideas to roaming judges, while the boardroom pitches occurred from 4:30 to 6:35 PM, with teams presenting for 15 minutes followed by a five-minute Q&A. Esteemed judges, including TMMBA competition-winning alumni, mentors, leaders, local investors, faculty, and community VIPs, had the difficult task of judging the product pitches.
The dedication of all students throughout their 18-month TMMBA journey was evident. A big congratulations goes to Team “New Whey” for winning both the boardroom and tradeshow pitch competitions for their innovative approach to producing baby formula with animal-identical whey protein. The winning team consisted of Kim Metzler, Jesse Villa, Connor Smith, Jenny Lee, Alberto Barreda, and Russell Kilgannon.
Graduation Banquet
The festivities continued with a memorable banquet held along the shores of Lake Washington on Friday, June 2nd. This evening of joy, laughter, and reflection allowed the TMMBA community to honor the exceptional achievements of the graduating class. From Professor Pat Bettin’s inspiring remarks on leadership to the presentation of student superlatives, the event celebrated the transformative experiences and growth of each student. As they danced the night away, students created lasting memories alongside staff, family, faculty, classmates, and friends.
Graduation Ceremony
The pinnacle of the graduation season was the highly anticipated TMMBA Graduation Ceremony held on Monday, June 5th, at the University of Washington’s Meany Center for the Performing Arts. This ceremony symbolized the completion of the TMMBA, Executive MBA and Hybrid MBA programs. As graduates crossed the stage to receive their well-earned diplomas, it symbolized the end of their journey in the program and the beginning of new opportunities. Congratulations to TMMBA Class of 2023 Valedictorian, Lucia Liu, and TMMBA graduation speaker, Katie Earls!
