Foster climbs 15 places in Academic Ranking of World Universities

In the past two years, the University of Washington Foster School of Business has advanced 15 places in the Finance and Business Administration subject rankings of the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Foster is ranked #11 in the world in Finance, up from #21 in 2018 and #26 in 2017.

In Business Administration, Foster is #22 in the world, up from #32 in 2018 and #37 in 2017.

Foster also is ranked #38 in the world in Management, up from #40 in 2018.

Among business schools in the United States, Foster is currently ranked #9 in Finance, #18 in Business Administration and #24 in Management.

Among U.S. public business schools, Foster is ranked #2 in Finance, #10 in Business Administration, and #13 in Management.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities, published since 2009 by the independent Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, rates more than 1,800 universities worldwide along a multitude of subject areas within the natural sciences, life sciences, medical sciences, social sciences and engineering. The rankings weigh several indicators of academic or research performance. These factors include number of highly cited researchers and papers, number of publications in top journals, degree of international collaboration and per capita academic performance.

In the area of Finance, Foster scored especially well in publications in top journals and citations (indicating superior quantity, quality and influence). In Business Administration, Foster excelled in citations and international collaborations. In Management, Foster scored highest in citations.

The Academic Ranking places the University of Washington at #14 overall, in league with the world’s élite research institutions.
