Foster student-athletes win rowing national championships
The Husky women’s rowing team celebrates its fourth NCAA Championship and 11th overall national championship.
Over the past couple of weeks, the University of Washington women’s and men’s rowing teams made the biggest splash on the national stage.
First, the Husky women swept the NCAA Championships in New Jersey in an unprecedented demonstration of dominance. They became the first women’s team in the NCAA era to win the grand finals in all three qualifying classes: varsity four, second varsity eight and first varsity eight. The marquee race saw the Washington women hold off a strong late charge by Stanford to win by 1.5 seconds. It was Washington’s fourth NCAA title and 11th national championship overall.
A week later, at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta, the Husky men swept the varsity four, third varsity eight and second varsity eight grand finals, and finished second in the varsity eight grand final by the narrowest of margins. The furious Husky sprint came up short of Yale by 12 inches—69 thousandths of a second.
The team performance earned the Jim Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy, winning the program’s 10th overall points title in the past 11 years.
Among this armada of champions is a large contingent of Husky rowers and coxswains who study at the UW Foster School of Business. They include:

The Husky men bring home three national titles and the overall points victory from the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta.

Also contributing to the Husky men’s team are Foster senior Ivan Piton and Foster juniors Blake Bauer, Harry Fox and Robert Karlen.
Sim, Milne and Daste are the latest in a long line of great Husky coxswains educated at the Foster School.
