One just graduated from the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship and is navigating accelerators and investment rounds with his sleep apnea device company, ApnoMed. The other is the founder and CEO of the widely successful online healthcare and cosmetic surgery marketplace, RealSelf. Other than them both being Foster Business School alumni (Tom got his MBA from Foster), they share another important commonality: they personally experienced a problem in the healthcare arena that they knew they wanted to fix.
The aim of this Taste of Entrepreneurship event is to explore the path that these founders took to start their companies from two different perspectives: freshly out of graduate school and in the thick securing funding, and nearly a decade and a half out from founding and the ups and downs of success.
Join the Master of Science in Entrepreneurship program at the Foster School of Business for the second online Taste of Entrepreneurship event as we seek to empower and inspire entrepreneurially-minded people to take the first step towards turning their business idea into a concrete reality.
Participants can submit questions in advance for Ryan and Tom through the online registration form, which is required to be filled out to attend the event.

Ryan Yousefian
Ryan graduated with an MS in Entrepreneurship degree from Foster in 2020 as part of the program’s third cohort. While in the program, with his startup ApnoMed, he won the UW’s Hollomon Health Innovation Challenge and the Dempsey Startup Competition, and received the “People’s Choice Award” at the 2020 Life Science Washington’s Fast Pitch Competition. He is currently going through the UW Jones + Foster Accelerator and is one of the six finalists in Seattle Angel Conference. ApnoMed’s flagship product is used for the management and cure of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, that Ryan himself was afflicted by as a teenager.
Tom Seery
After Tom graduated from the UW Foster School of Business with an MBA in 2000, he accepted a job at Expedia, which at the time was a quickly growing Microsoft spin-out. After a few years—inspired by a comment made by his wife on how much easier it was to get real insight on hotels and restaurants than expensive cosmetic procedures—Tom launched RealSelf, the online platform for explaining cosmetic procedures, reviewing doctors, and posting before and after pictures, becoming the medical aesthetics industry’s leading community and marketplace. Tom stepped down as RealSelf CEO in October 2020 to take on the role of executive chairman.
